The digestive system of canines is different compared to that of humans. There are certain types of foods that are safe for human consumption, but are unhealthy or even pose a threat to the lives of dogs. Thankfully, there are some human foods that can also be eaten by dogs since they provide them with the essential nutrients and benefits needed for living a healthy life. Some of these should only be eaten in moderation.

The following are the human foods that are also safe for canine consumption:

1. Carrots
Carrots are healthy foods for humans as well as dogs. When carrots are chewed on it, it can be helpful in the removal of the plaque from the teeth of the dog and promote overall oral health. It is a rich source of vitamin A that is also helpful for the coat, immune system, and skin of the canine. But having too many carrots can also be toxic for the dog; hence, it needs to be given to the canine in moderation.

2. Apples
Apples provide a lot of essential vitamins that the system of the dog needs, which includes vitamins C and A. It is also a fiber-rich fruit that can be useful in regulating the digestion of the dog. But if the dog is given too many apples that are rotten then it could cause alcohol poisoning in the canines.

3. White rice

When white rice is cooked plain it is considered to be a good meal alternative for the pet who has an upset stomach as it is easy for them to digest it as well as helps in binding the stools. The blood sugar levels of the canines may rise due to the consumption of the white rice so dogs who suffer from diabetes should be eating the meal consisting of white rice in smaller proportions.

4. Dairy products
Cheese, plain yogurt and milk is safe or the consumption of dogs but they need to be given to them in small portions. Having too much of the dairy products can lead to problems in the canine’s digestive system. The reason behind this is that the levels of lactose of the dogs may be low. Lactose is a digestive enzyme that helps in breaking down the sugars that are present in the milk. However, dogs who are intolerant to lactose should not be given dairy products. The signs of the canine being lactose intolerant will be vomiting or diarrhea once they have eaten anything that has dairy products in it.

5. Fish
Tuna, shrimp, and salmon are fish that are safe for canine consumption apart from the fact that they are rich sources of proteins. Tuna and salmon are good omega 3 fatty acids that are useful in keeping the canine’s immune system, skin, and coat healthy. Shrimps contain vitamin B that can help in keeping the canine’s digestive system healthy as well as keeping the blood circulation healthy. It is essential to cook the fish prior to giving the canine because if the fish is not cooked it may contain parasites that are harmful.
